Paragraph Questions

Paragraph: students answer in a longer, essay-type format. The designer or the teaching assistant must grade this type of question manually. For more information, please refer to Grading Quizzes.
  1. From your course Homepage, in Designer Options view (the default location and view when you log in as an instructor), Click on the link you created with the Quiz/Survey Tool. In this example, the link is titled "Quizzes".

  2. Select "Question Bank" from the Quizzes/Surveys page.

  3. You should see a page similar to the one below. Note the Category and Question Type selections that must be made before creating the new question.

  4. After selecting the desired category for your question, select the type of question you wish to add from the drop-down box. For this example, select "Paragraph" then click on "Go".

  5. Enter the question title and the content of the question. One suggestion is to use enough of the initial part of the actual question so that when you see just a list of the titles, you will be able to easily associate the title with the actual question.

  6. From the Paragraph Question screen, under Settings, from the Answer box size drop-down lists, select the length and width of the answer box presented to students.

  7. Under Answers, you can provide introductory text and/or an equation in the Pre-fill answerbox to aid or orient students. If you want to provide students with the correct answer and/or the correct equation, type it into the Correct Answer text box. It will display once the question has been graded. Finally, click "Save". The Question Database screen appears and the paragraph question is added to the selected category.

  8. To enter additional questions into this category, return to Step #4.


  9. To view the specific instructions associated with creating the different question types, please click the appropriate link below. Note that a True / False question is a form of a Multiple Choice question. However, there are only two possible answers, either True or False.
