Tips For Success
Here are a few tips to being successful in an on-line course:
- If you have trouble accessing your online course, contact the instructor.
- Keep in touch with him or her throughout the semester.
- Always contact the instructor if you have questions regarding an assignment or information in the course.
- Read the syllabus on your first visit to the course. You may even want to print the syllabus for quick and easy reference.
- Familiarize yourself with the layout of the course to make it easier to navigate throughout the site.
- Print, write, or set a reminder for the course's major calendar dates. You don't want to miss quizzes, exams, or project due dates.
- Schedule time each week to work uninterrupted on your on-line class (i.e. from 2 to 5 on Tuesday afternoons), as opposed to sitting down sporadically. You are more likely to get things done if you plan study time in advance.
- For every hour of class time, be sure to schedule 3 hours of study time.
- Remember a lot can happen in a week. Make sure you make frequent visits to the discussion board and email for your course, so that you do not miss any important discussions.
- Don't feel you have to respond to discussion board postings immediately. Taking time to think out a response over a few hours, or even a day, allows you to compose more meaningful messages.
