Tips For Success

Here are a few tips to being successful in an on-line course:

  1. If you have trouble accessing your online course, contact the instructor.
  2. Keep in touch with him or her throughout the semester.
  3. Always contact the instructor if you have questions regarding an assignment or information in the course.
  4. Read the syllabus on your first visit to the course. You may even want to print the syllabus for quick and easy reference.
  5. Familiarize yourself with the layout of the course to make it easier to navigate throughout the site.
  6. Print, write, or set a reminder for the course's major calendar dates. You don't want to miss quizzes, exams, or project due dates.
  7. Schedule time each week to work uninterrupted on your on-line class (i.e. from 2 to 5 on Tuesday afternoons), as opposed to sitting down sporadically. You are more likely to get things done if you plan study time in advance.
  8. For every hour of class time, be sure to schedule 3 hours of study time.
  9. Remember a lot can happen in a week. Make sure you make frequent visits to the discussion board and email for your course, so that you do not miss any important discussions.
  10. Don't feel you have to respond to discussion board postings immediately. Taking time to think out a response over a few hours, or even a day, allows you to compose more meaningful messages.

FUN FACT:

"UHCL has awarded more than 36,000 degrees to 33,000 alumni, most of who continue to live and work in the Houston/Galveston area."
